More about this list
Few sources in Valencia say in so many words that newcomers are welcome, and this short list holds the ones that do. The Games in Mano group describes its chess evening on the terrace of Bola en Mano as designed for beginner and casual players, with boards provided. CHESSNGO teaches small groups and individual pupils, adults as well as children, and publishes its hourly prices. The Ciutat Vella club was named by the municipal sports foundation as the organiser of its chess school for young children, and runs a school tournament in the Plaça de Patraix.
A club that is missing from this page has not turned beginners away: its pages simply do not address the question. If you are starting out, write to the club nearest to you and ask which evening suits a new player; clubs with a school of their own, such as C.D. Basilio or Mislata, hear that question every September.
