Chess in Valencia: clubs, tournaments, bars and classes
Chess in Valencia is club chess first: neighbourhood clubs such as Monteolivete, Benimaclet and L'Olivereta in the city, and others in the towns around it, from Paterna and Mislata to Silla and Sagunto. The La Petxina sports complex, with a chess hall of its own, hosts much of the tournament year, summer brings the international opens, one bar holds a weekly blitz and another has announced a casual evening on its terrace.

Chess960 around Valencia
In Chess960 the pieces on the back rank start in a shuffled set-up drawn just before the game, so opening books are of no use and the thinking begins at move one. The format is also known as Fischer Random or Freestyle chess; ch960.com explains the rules and lets you play it online.
Over the board, the sources show one event that comes back each July: the Torneo 960 of Quart de Poblet, played in the town hall's assembly room on the same weekend as the town's rapid and blitz opens. Beyond it there are single traces: a one-day Freestyle 960 event that the Camp de Morvedre club held in a Sagunto square, and a Fischer Random tournament in the photo gallery of CHESSNGO. No weekly Chess960 evening in the city itself turned up.

What stands behind each entry
Every entry here has a name and at least one public page behind it: a club site, a federation league table or tournament page, a town-hall or sports-foundation report, a Meetup event, a press item. Names are left as their organisers write them, in Spanish or in Valencian.
Each fact is tagged as official, secondary or unverified, linked to the page it came from and dated with the day that page was read. Where no source speaks, the card says "not stated by sources" and leaves it there. Nothing is scored or put in an order of merit. The editorial notes give the rules in full; errors and missing places go through the contribution form.
